‘Up All Night’ Adds New Showrunner, ‘Call The Midwife’ Season 2 Premiere Date Announced, PaleyFest to Feature ‘OUAT’, ‘Revolution’ and More

TV news you might have missed…

“Up All Night” is getting a new showrunner. “Nurse Jackie” co-creator Linda Wallem will serve as the comedy’s new showrunner and executive producer, Deadline announced earlier this week.

PBS announced the holiday special of “Call The Midwife” airs Sunday, December 30 at 7:30 p.m. ET and Season 2 debuts March 31 at 8 p.m.

The Paley Center announced earlier this week, that next year’s PaleyFest will feature “Once Upon A Time,” “The Newsroom” and “Revolution.” The full schedule for the event will be announced Jan. 9. [Twitter]

The CW is replacing canceled freshman series ‘Emily Owens’ M.D. with new series “Cult.” The new thriller “Cult” will premiere Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 9/8c. Below is a promo.

The new season of “Kathy” will debut Thurs., Jan, 10th at 10/9c.

Bradley Whitford Heads to ‘Shameless’ And More Casting News

Bradley Whitford has been cast to guest star on “Shameless.”

The paid cable network announced today, “The West Wing” alum will appear in multi-episode arc on “Shameless’s” upcoming season.

Whitford will star as Abraham, “a powerful, well-dressed, sophisticated gay man who is a political activist.”

“Shameless” third season premieres Sun., Jan. 13.

In other casting news…

“The View” co-host, and movie veteran Whoopi Goldberg has been cast in the seventh episode of “666 Park Avenue.” Goldberg will guest star as Drake’s longtime resident who uses hypnosis to help Jane understand the building’s supernatural nature. [EW]

Lisa Edelstein has been tapped to guest star on CBS’ “Elementary.” The “House” alum will appear on the seventh episode of the Sherlock drama as Heather Vanowen, the confident and charismatic CEO of a high-end PR consultancy, TVLine reports. Additionally, Callie Thorne, who stars on “Necessary Roughness,” has been to guest star as Terry D’Amico Gregson’s former partner, on the series. Thorne is set to appear in the drama’s sixth episode. [TVLine]

Daniel Henney (“Three Rivers”) will play Michael Noshimuri, Adam’s brother, who was just released from Penitentiary after serving 15 years on “Hawaii Five-0.” [TV Guide]

“King Of Queens”‘ alum Patton Oswalt has been booked to appear in “Justified’s” forthcoming fourth season. Oswalt will play Bob Sweeney, a local constable who attended high school with Raylan and has been hired by the lawman to watch Arlo’s house. [TVLine]

Robbie Amell (“Revenge”) heads to “1600 Penn” in a recurring role. Amell joins the cast as D.B., a handsome, sweet young man. [EW]

“Up All Night” has booked “Alphas” actress Azita Ghanizada to star as Ava’s new-found best friend. TVLine reports. In addition, Tony Hale, who starred on “Veep” will play Dr. Welborn, Reagan’s flirty dentist. [TV Guide]

Christina Applegate, Bruno Mars To Host ‘SNL’

NBC’s “SNL” will return Saturday with three back-to-back shows, the Peacock network announced today.

As previously reported, Daniel Craig, aka James Bond is scheduled to host the comedy show on Oct. 6., with musical guest Muse.

“Up All Night” star Christina Applegate will return as host on October 13. While Passion Pit will make their musical guest debut.

Lastly, Multi-platinum singer/songwriter/producer Bruno Mars will not only be the musical guest, but also the host of the comedy series, on Oct. 20.

“SNL” airs Saturdays on NBC at 11:30/10:30c.

‘Game of Thrones’ Adds Ed Skrein and Jacob Anderson And More Casting News

According to EW, Ed Skrein has been cast as Daario Naharis, the handsome and harsh captain of a company of soldiers called The Stormcrows on “Game of Thrones.”

Additionally, Jacob Anderson has been cast as Grey Worm, the leader of the group of slave soldiers Unsullied.

The third season of “Game of Thrones” premieres Mar., 31 2013.

“ER” alum, Goran Visnjic is set to play Schiller, the mafia mob boss on the ABC drama, “The Red Widow.” [Deadline]

Terrence Howard is set to appear in an upcoming episode of “Hawaii Five-0.” Howard is set to appear in an episode that features  flashbacks to Danny’s (Scott Caan) former life as a cop in Newark, New Jersey. [EW]

Reality star, Kendall Jenner is set to make her acting debut this fall on “Hawaii Five-0.” [TV Guide]

Rob Huebel (Children’s Hospital) actor will appear on the NBC comedy “Up All Night.” Huebel will play Chris’ (Will Arnett) irritating college roommate. [TV Guide]

‘Arrow’ Adds ‘Torchwood’ Star And More Casting News

Captain Jack is joining CW’s new series “Arrow.”

EW reports, John Barrowman has been cast in a recurring role for the comic book based drama. The “Torchwood” star will play a mysterious, wealthy, well-dressed man, who is “an acquaintance of the Queen family and a prominent figure in Starling City.”

“Arrow” is set to debut Wednesday, Oct. 10 on The CW.

In other casting news…

H. Jon Benjamin (Family Guy) will guest-star in “Suburgatory.” Benjamin will play Tabitha, Dallas’ life coach.  [TVLine]

Kathryn Erbe will reprise her “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” role on the upcoming season of “Law & Order: SVU” as a detective working for a joint City/Federal Homeland Security Task Force who crosses paths with the SVU squad.

John Slattery has been tapped to join “Arrested Development.” Information about his character is scare but the “Mad Men” star will appear in multiple episodes of the comedy series. [TVLine]

“GCB” star Miriam Shor will recur as a reporter on “The Good Wife.” It seems the “GCB” star will be replacing fellow “GCB” star Kristin Chenoweth on ‘The Good Wife.’  [TVLine]

“Saturday Night Live” vet Rachel Dratch will reunite with former castmate Maya Rudolph on season 2 of “Up All Night.” Dratch will play a superfan of Ava’s (Rudolph’s character) talk show. [THR]

Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons) will guest star on the upcoming season of “Touch.” Zurer will portray Rosemary Mathis, a gifted architect who had special talents from an early age. [TVLine]

Lucy Lawless (Spartacus) has been cast in a multi-episode arc on “Parks and Recreation.” Lawless will play a single mom and a love interest for Ron (Nick Offerman). [TVLine]

Sean Hayes Gets ‘Smash’ed And More Casting News

Sean Hayes will guest-star on NBC’ s musical drama “Smash.” The “Will & Grace” veteran will appear as Terrence Falls in a multi-episode arc of the upcoming season, NBC reports.

Falls is described as “a comedic television and film star who is making his Broadway debut in the musical Liaisons, based on the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses.  Due to a series of comic circumstances, he becomes a major thorn in the side for Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and other characters.”

Hayes will also appear on NBC’s “Up All Night” as Ava’s former accompanist.

‘True Blood’ Star Heads to ‘How I Met Your Mother’ And More Casting News

“True Blood”‘s wolf will return to “How I Met Your Mother.”

TVLine reports, Joe Manganiello will reprise his role as Brad, Marshall’s law school companion on the hit comedy series.

Manganiello joins previously announced Michael Trucco and Ashley Williams for a multi-episode arc on the upcoming season of “How I Met Your Mother.”

The comedy series continues Mon., Sept. 24.

Casting Scoop: Krysta Rodriguez Cast As ‘Smash’ Regular & More

“Smash” casts another Theater Vet.

Krysta Rodriguez,  has joined “Smash” as Karen’s (Katharine McPhee) roommate. The actress is joining the NBC drama as Ana, Karen’s fun and spunky new roommate who is looking for her big break on Broadway. She has been cast as a series regular.

More “Smash” casting news!

Tom’s boyfriend, Sam has been bumped to a regular on “Smash.” Leslie Odom Jr. recurred as Sam, a dancer/Ivy’s friend during the first season. As the season progressed, Sam became a love interest for Tom (Christian Borle).

So far Jennifer Hudson, Jermey Jordan, Krysta Rodriguez and Andy Mientus have been cast for the second season of “Smash.” While Jamie Cepero (Ellis), Raza Jaffrey (Dev), Brian D’Arcy James (Frank) and Will Chase (Michael) have been dropped.

Meanwhile, “Up All Night'”s Regan is getting a younger brother. The brother, Scott will be played by Luka Jones (Best Friends Forever). According to EW, Scott, a divorced, laid back construction worker, comes to town with his unruly 5-year old son. Jones joins the cast as a series regular.

“Up All Night” second season premieres Thursday, Sept. 20.
