‘True Blood’ Casts Jurnee Smollett & Amelia Rose And More Casting News

Jurnee Smollett and Amelia Rose are heading to Bon Temps.

“Friday Night Lights” alumna Jurnee Smollett has joined the vampire drama as a series regular and “90210’s” Amelia Rose Blaire has been nabbed to recur in the upcoming season, according to TVLine.

Smollett will play optimist Nicole, who is concerned with doing the right thing versus doing something for compensation. Meanwhile, Blaire will play Willa, Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell’s (Arliss Howard) daughter, who disagrees with her father over vampire rights.

Rena Sofer Joins ‘Once Upon A Time’ And More Casting News

Rena Sofer Once Upon A Time

“General Hospital” alum is heading to ABC’s magical tale “Once Upon A Time.”

According to TV Guide, Rena Sofer has been nabbed to play Queen Eva, Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin)’s mother, who will be featured in flashbacks.

The site reports, Sofer is slated to appear in at least one episode, which is scheduled to air in March.

Salma Hayek is set to return to “30 Rock.” Hayek will reprise her role as nurse Elisa, Jack’s ex, in the series hour-long finale. [EW]

“The Soul Man” actress Niecy Nash is heading to “Ben and Kate.” Nash will guest-star as Roz, the soon-to-be-ex-wife of Buddy (Rob Corddry) the bar owner. [TVLine]

Matthew Perry to Return to ‘The Good Wife’ And More Casting News

“Go On” star Matthew Perry is set to reprise his role on “The Good Wife.”

According to CBS, Matthew Perry will reprise his guest role as Mike Kresteva, a slick Chicago attorney who is running against Peter Florrick for the governorship.

Perry’s episode is slated to air in early 2013.

“The Newsroom” has cast former “United States of Tara” actors Patton Oswalt and Rosemarie DeWitt in recurring role in its upcoming season. DeWitt will play Rebecca Halliday, a litigator who defends Atlantis Cable News in a wrongful termination suit. Oswalt will portray Jonas Pfeiffer, the new vice president of human resources at ACN. [Deadline]

Brittany Snow is joining “Ben And Kate” as Lila, a love interest for Tommy in multiple episode arc. [E! Online]

Hal Linden will appear on “The Mindy Project.” The titular star of “Barney Miller” is joining the Fox comedy as nursing home resident, Manny, who’s a former Army drill sergeant. [TVLine]

D.B. Woodside (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”)  has booked a multiple-episode arc on “Emily Owens, M.D.” freshman drama. Woodside will play Evan, the husband of the intimidating Dr. Gina Bandari (Necar Zadegan). [THR]

‘Game of Thrones’ Enlists Coldplay’s Drummer And More Casting News

“Game of Thrones” is adding a drummer.

Coldplay’s drummer Will Champion has been cast in the upcoming season of the HBO series, EW reports. Champion will play a drummer in the drama series. 

“Game of Thrones” returns March 31.

‘Ben And Kate’ And ‘The Mindy Project’ Receive Full Seasons

Fox’s new comedies “Ben And Kate” and “‘The Mindy Project” have been picked up for full seasons.

“The Mindy Project” has received an order for nine new episodes, and “Ben & Kate’s” order is for six additional episodes, Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, announced Monday.

“’Ben & Kate’ and ‘The Mindy Project’ have everything we want to stand for in comedy: smart writing, hugely appealing casts and comedy that feels contemporary and real — which is why we’re confident they will continue to build on what is already an appointment comedy night for young, influential audiences on Tuesdays,” Kevin Reilly, chairman of entertainment at Fox, said in a statement.

“Ben And Kate” and “The Mindy Project” air Tuesdays on FOX.

 

Tone Bell Joins ‘Whitney’ And More Casting News

Stand-up comedian Tone Bell has joined NBC’s sitcom “Whitney.”

According to TVLine, Tone Bell will play Alex’s buddy in the forthcoming season. Whitney Cummings told the site, Bell’s character, RJ is a “very sexy,  sort of new guy character friend” for her on-screen boyfriend played by Chris D’Elia.

Additionally, RJ “could maybe be a love interest” for the newly single, Zoe Lister Jones’ character Lily.

Bell recently appeared in VH1’s original series “Single Ladies.”

“Whitney” premieres Fri., Oct. 19 at 8/7c on NBC.

“Justified” actors David Meunier and David Andrews, has been tapped to recur in NBC’s J.J. Abrams drama “Revolution.” Meunier will recur as Strasser, a “psychotic” militiaman who works for General Monroe (David Lyons). Andrews, on the other hand, will play O’Halloran, a family man and former police officer. [EW]

TV Pilot Reviews: ‘Mindy Project,’ ‘The New Normal’ And More

With the million shows premiering this fall, I decided to watch the new comedies’ pilots and share my first impressions with you.

If you haven’t watched the comedies, you can watch them online. Let’s start with FOX’s new comedies, “The Mindy Project” and “Ben and Kate.”

The Mindy Project

“The Mindy Project” premieres Sept. 15 on Fox.

The plot: Mindy Lahiri stars as Mindy, a 31-years-old Indian-American OB/GYN, who is successful in every area of her life, except her love life. Anna Camp plays Gwen, Mindy’s friend (I hope Anna will be given more screen time), Danny Castellano played by Chris Messina who is Mindy’s rival, fellow doctor, and potential love interest, and Ed Weeks plays Jeremy, Mindy’s fellow doctor and friend.

First impression: This show had everybody talking. When I saw the trailer, I mentally added it to my list of upcoming shows. Mindy is so funny and hilarious all the time, that you can’t stop grinning while watching the show.

Another thing that makes the show great is the cast: Anna Camp, Stephen Tobolowsky, Chris Messina and its guest stars: Bill Hader, and Ed Helms. Hello! I hope the show keeps inviting great guest stars.

I will definitely tune in. It is funny, fun and hilarious. However, the romantic clichés and untimely pop-culture references could be down turned a bit. Just a bit.

Grade: B

Ben and Kate

“Ben and Kate” premieres Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. on Fox.

The plot: An idiotic brother returns home to help his single sister raise her adorable five-year old daughter.

The pilot was good; it was not laugh-out-loud funny, but it was funny. The show has potential. I hope we get to see more of Tommy, Ben’s friend who is obsessed with Kate. Am I the only one who doesn’t find BJ funny?

If you don’t like watching shows which are stupidly funny, this show is not for you. The show has heart and potential, so I will give the show a few more episodes.

C+

“Animal Practice” premieres Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. on NBC.

The plot: Dr. George Coleman’s ex-girlfriend Dorothy Crane returns to run Crane Animal Hospital more “professionally” and annoy Coleman in the process.

I’m surprised I sat through it. The pilot was messy. Maybe the show should focus more on the animals other than the humans. The monkey (Hangover) was great, and it is pretty obvious she is the star of the show.

I’m a fan of Justin Kirk (“Weeds”), so might stick around. If you’re not or do not enjoy watching animals on-screen, this show is not for you.

Grade: D

The New Normal

“The New Normal” premieres Sept. 11 at 8:30 p.m. on NBC

The plot: a homosexual couple decides to have a baby via a surrogate. However, the surrogate they choose has an outspoken bigot grandmother, a cute daughter and financial problems.

This show was not on my radar, but it is now! The show is great. It delivers, and nails every scene. It has a lot of heart; it is funnay,  interesting, and entertaining. I want more!

The cast, including Nene Leakes rocked. The chemistry between the cast was great. I would be adding this show to my DVR. Despite the controversies surrounding this show, but I hope it sticks around. If you do not like the gays, this show is CLEARLY not for you. But if you do, you should give this show a trial and ratings!

Grade: A

Go On

“Go On” premieres Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. on NBC.

The plot: a sportscaster is requested to see a therapist after he losses his wife in an accident.

I know the show sounds depressing, but it isn’t. Well, not yet. When I learnt Matthew Perry was returning to prime time, I hoped he found a decent show. And I’m happy he did.

I hope the show is here to stay because the show is great. It is funny, witty, and definitely has potential.

Grade: B

Kevin Sussman Becomes A Series Regular on ‘Big Bang Theory’ And More Casting News

 

The Big Bang Theory

Kevin Sussman has been upped as a series regular on “The Big bang Theory.”

According to Deadline, Sussman, who has recurred as Stuart, the owner of the Marvel-lite comic book shop, since season 2 joins Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayar, Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik as a series regular.

“The Big Bang Theory” premieres on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8/7c on CBS.

Jessica De Gouw has landed a multi-episode arc on The CW’s “Arrow.” Gouw is set to play The Huntress, aka Helena, a potential love interest for Oliver Queen. [EW]

William Forsythe and Samaire Armstrong will reprise their roles on “The Mentalist.” Forsythe will return as Rigsby’s father, while Armstrong will reprise her role as Summer Edgecombe, CBI confident informant. [TVLine]

Jillian Bell (Workaholics) has booked a recurring role as Renata, the second cousin of Sophia Bush’s character in CBS new comedy “Partners.” Renata is “a work-in-progress,” and a bit of a personal and professional mess. [TVLine]

‘Game of Thrones’ Adds Ed Skrein and Jacob Anderson And More Casting News

According to EW, Ed Skrein has been cast as Daario Naharis, the handsome and harsh captain of a company of soldiers called The Stormcrows on “Game of Thrones.”

‘Game of Thrones’: 14 Roles Join the Series

Additionally, Jacob Anderson has been cast as Grey Worm, the leader of the group of slave soldiers Unsullied.

The third season of “Game of Thrones” premieres Mar., 31 2013.

TV Scoop: Dean Geyer and Jacob Artist Join ‘Glee,’ ‘MasterChef’ Renewed and More

The hit musical series, “Glee” has landed Australian actor, Dean Geyer and Jacob Artist (Blue Lagoon: The Awakening).

TVLine reports, Jacob Artist has joined the series as Puck’s half-brother, Jake. The newcomer is set to debut in the season premiere.

Meanwhile Dean Geyer, has been cast as Rachel’s NYADA classmate. Geyer will play Brody Weston, an upperclassman who likes the new girl (Rachel) on campus. Geyer will also appear in the fourth season premiere on Thurs., Sept. 13.

Adam Baldwin, “Chuck” vet will appear in a three-episodes arc in the upcoming season of “Law & Order: SVU.” The “Firefly” alum will play Capt. Steven Harris, the team’s interim captain. Baldwin will take over Capt. Donald Cragen duties in the first three episodes. [TVGuide]

Jack Coleman is joining “Castle.” Coleman, “Heroes” alum will guest-star as “well-liked U.S. senator who finds himself in conflict with Beckett,” TVLine reports.

“New Girl” casts David Walton, Leslie Mann, and Rachael Harris. Walton will play Zooey’s new love interest, while Mann will guest-star in the second season premiere, she will play a “shot girl” and a an event planner for Schmidt’s penis cast party. Lastly, Harris will return to the FOX’s hit comedy series as vice-principal of Jess’s school. [EW]
