Happy New Year! Hope it is off to a great start already!

I decided to introduce K-drama to the blog! For those who do not know, “K-drama” is an abbreviation for Korean Drama. I enjoy watching these television dramas from South Korea.  A friend of mine introduced me to it and I have been hooked for almost four years now. I’m Nigerian and no, I’m not fluent in Korean language but I think I’m getting there, *side eye”

It started with Boys Over Flowers, boy oh boy, was I hooked. After that drama marathon, I wanted MORE!. More of Lee Min Ho and Kim Hyun Joong! More of the drama, the love, the romance… really, i thought it was that good. Just like that I was welcomed to the world of K-drama.

Here are my favorite kdramas in no particular order:

Boys Over Flowers (2009)

Image result for BOYS OVER FLOWERS

This drama made me cry and laugh so much.  Half the time I caught myself screaming at my iPad. Yeah, we both know that’s normal, right?  It was my first initiation to the Chaebol craze and second lead syndrome. Lee Min Ho and Ku Hye Sun have us that young love which consisted of petty fights, misunderstandings and make ups. You definitely can not have a kdrama without character developments.  Personally, Boys over Flowers was so popular  when it aired so that is also a plus. Ah! I enjoyed it. Watch why Lee Min Ho got so popular here

Can You Hear My Heart (2011)

Synopsis: Hwang Jung Eum played the role of Bong Woo Ri,  a  young woman who did her best to provide and protect her deaf mother and mentally ill father. Family trials brought Bong Woo Ri closer to a deaf rich man, Dong Joo(Kim Jae Won) who is hunted by his family’s dark secrets

Omo! Omo! This drama right here was so good. I became a fan of Hwang Jung Eum because of her performance in this drama. The cast was great. This is a must-see, It is going to tug at your heart-strings. Do not sleep on this drama.  Get your tissues ready and Watch it here

A Gentleman’s Dignity (2012)

Synopsis: four best friends in their 40s dealing with their romantic and professional lives. Jang Dong Gun stars as the male lead(Kim Do-Jin) who wants love but does not want to share his wealth. Kim Ha Neul stars as the female lead, she plays Seo Yi-Soo,  who falls in love with Kim Do-Jin.

A Gentleman’s Dignity was mature and refreshing drama. Initially, I was not going to watch it, but it was really good. It is not about that young annoying love stories. It is mature but cute and kept me wanting more. I have seen it twice, yup! it’s that good. All the cast were great and it was my first time watching any of their work. Watch it here

My Love from Another Star (2013)

Synopsis:It is about an alien, Do Min Joo (Kim Soo Hyun), who crash landed on earth and was left behind, thus lived on earth for 400 years among humans and falls in love with an actress, Cheon Song-Yi ( by Jun Ji Hyun).

I am not much of a sci-fi fan; fantasy? yes. but not Sci-fi. I am not interested in all that vampire, alien, time traveling type of anything. I decided to be open-minded and gave it a go. My Love From Another Star had me in stitches from the first episode. seven out of ten times when a drama begins that good, the drama keeps that winning streak to the very last episode. It was very entertaining. I enjoyed it…duh! Please tell me you’ve seen it too. If you haven’t, Watch it here

The Moon Embracing The Sun (2012)

Synopsis: the story of the undying love between the crown prince, Lee Kwon (Kim Soo Hyun) and a noble girl, Wol (Han Ga In). Wol was chosen as the crown princess but was believed dead until she reappeared 8 years later with no memory of her past. The kid actors were really good, I wished Han Ga In gave me more.I Felt like I was not getting something from her. Or maybe I’m just biased towards Kim You Jung who played the younger Wol. Yeah, she  is one of my favorite South Korean actresses. Anyway, If you are still sleeping on this drama, you need to wake up!! The cast should make you give it a try. Watch it here

Heirs (2013)

File:The Heirs - Korean Drama-p1.jpg
Solange, They did it first, yeah!. You know…that pose at your wedding that “broke the internet?”. well, they kinda did…

I do not think I need to introduce this majestic drama. It is everywhere, Heirs was quite popular when it aired. Even my mom watched with me and my sis. I remember the three of us spending time watching it together, it was a date! I have seen Heirs thrice… *covers face*. More than K-drama romance, I really enjoy watching it’s bromance, and Heirs gave me that and more.

Off topic but can I just rant for sec here? I really do not know which pair I prefer; Lee Min Ho and Kim Woo Bin or Lee Jong Suk and Kim Woo Bin( School 2013). I need them all in a drama. Wouldn’t that be great? *fans self*

Watch Park Shin Hye’s fall in love with Lee Min Ho here

Dong Yi (2010)

This was the time Kim You Jung became one of the  kid actresses I love to watch.

Synopsis: This is a historical drama based on the life of Dong Yi (Kim You Jung) who was later known as Choi Suk Bin (Han Hyo Joo), who was born a commoner that became a concubine to the King. Choi Suk Bin had to overcome political and personal battles to protect  and raise her son, the future king.

Dong Yi  is  was the reason Kim You Jung became one of the  kid actresses I love to watch. It is my all time favorite historical korean drama. It is also a true life story. I do not know a lot of K-drama fans who have seen this. Most people over look it  because it is historical and has 60 episodes. ha ha, yes! 60 episodes. I was hooked from the beginning. I recommend you to give it a try. If you liked Han Hyo Joo in Shinning Inheritance, you will love her in this drama. I think I might just watch it again. Watch it here

Iris (2009)

Synopsis: Two sworn brothers Hyeong Jun (Lee Byun Hun) and Sa Won(Jeong  Jun Ho) who are elite agents of the National Security Systems both fall  for fellow agent, Seung Hee(Kim Tae Hee). Hyeong Jun goes on an assignment in Hungary where he was betrayed. Upon returning to South Korea,  Hyeong Jun believed that everyone in his organization was either dead or working for the enemy. While Hyeong Jun carried out his revenge, he begins to discover the secrets of IRIS, a secret organization.

This is by faaaar (yeah, the distance is clear) my favorite action K-drama. It was thrilling, intense, romantic and exciting. I did not want it to end. I miss it so much (I bet I’m not the only one that has felt this way about certain dramas). The battle between love and duty. Ahh, it was one of my firsts and it was amazing, got me excited when I learned that a sequel series was in the works. Although the sequel was good, just was not the synopsis I expected. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Season 8 Ep 21-22.

The Ultimate Question: Who failed the boards?

GREY'S ANATOMY - "Moment of Truth" - After eight years of practice, the residents head to San Francisco for their oral boards; sparks fly between Catherine and Richard when they bump into each other at the hotel; Bailey intervenes after Owen and Teddy get into a heated argument about their young car crash patient; and Mark tries to recruit Lexie for one of his cases. Meanwhile, Alex feels guilty for being away from the hospital when Tommy's health begins to fail, on Grey's Anatomy, THURSDAY, APRIL 26 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/RICHARD CARTWRIGHT)SARAH DREW, JESSE WILLIAMS

I don’t even know if this counts as a recap, but can I just say how much I loved this episode?! It’s my favorite episode this season. It keeps getting better! I didn’t write a recap last week, because it wouldn’t have done the episode justice.

The drama with the Boards exam continued and it was so intense; Meredith was sick, Kepner got into a fight and she liked it, Karev’s mind was in Seattle, Avery broke his lucky pencil. LoL! Just when you think the interview is going well, someone snaps, mostly the interviewee. At the beginning of this episode, it was so hard to determine who will pass the Boards.

Alex left for Seattle before the boards started because he couldn’t stop thinking about his patient (Intern’s baby). On getting to Seattle, there wasn’t much to do and the baby died. Robbins convinced him to go back for his boards, he was already late and the traffic didn’t help either, so he had to run to the venue which was 20 blocks away from the traffic jam. He arrived at the venue after the first session ended, but according to the rules, you can pass the boards if you get a perfect score in two out of three sessions. He was prepared to give it his best, but the interviewers seemed like they couldn’t get past the fact that he was late and they had been waiting for him all morning.

Meredith’s stomach flu wasn’t helping either, she vomitted several times and she almost quit the interview. She called Derek and said “Will you still love me if I fail?” As prescribed by Bailey, Derek decided to go with the ‘metaphor style’ and it worked, because Meredith was even more motivated to finish the interview. She continued to throw up in front of the interviewers…and she did it in the trash can…ewww! But who cares?! She was confident and she knew what she was talking about. 🙂

Cristina and her interviewer were not getting along at all. They were two geniuses from completely different generations. As we all know Christina has her smart, but aggressive way of doing things, the interviewer didn’t get why she was so confident that her methods would work. Cristina tried to tolerate the interviewer, but when she couldn’t take it any longer, she snapped and gave him a lecture! “Just tell me the decade you want and I’ll provide the answer” Haha. Lol.

Jackson had seen his mum earlier with Webber when he went to get his lucky pencil and he was grossed out, so his day started out rough. But it got even worse when he found out that his mum was the interviewer in the next room. It was so hard to focus on his interview as he heard his mother’s loud and unending laughter. Poor Avery 😦 his second session was better after his “encounter with Kepner.” 😉

Kepner was crazy! Haha! Lol! This episode was the most face-time she ever got since the beginning of the season! Like the others, her interview wasn’t going so well. She bent the rules of the interview, she yelled, screamed, took off her jacket and did a lil dance for the interviewers. She was cracking me up… haha! Poor girl. She was trying so hard not to fail that she ruined the interview. During her second session, she was rambling and saying things that were irrelevant to the questions being asked. She was really trying to process what happened with Avery and how she had gone against her values.

They all found out their results and it was just like Avery’s Mum said “only four out of five passed.”

So who failed? The  look on Kepner’s face pretty much gives away the answer 😦 but we can’t be so sure! (there could be a twist)

Moving on to  non-board related issues…Mark and Lexie?!  She confessed…OMG! like 10 times…aww! The moment we have all been waiting for! But Julia is still in the picture. 😦 I smell drama…Are they getting back together?

Here is the preview for the next episode… see for your self! 🙂

“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thurs. at 9/8c on ABC.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 8 Ep. 20: The Girl With No Name

“When you are a kid, you always want things to stay the same, the same teacher, same house, same friends. Being a Surgeon is no different, you get used to the same attendings, same scrub nurses, same hospital…Of course, that all changes, the minute fifth-year comes around and you have to find a new job…it’s one of those things people say, you can’t move on until you have left go of the past, letting go is the easy part, it’s the moving on that is painful, so sometimes we fight it, try and keep things the same, things can’t stay the same though, at some point you just have to let go, move on! Because no matter how painful it is, it’s the only way we grow” Meredith Grey (Episode Narrative).

GREY'S ANATOMY - "The Girl with No Name" - The doctors work on a Jane Doe, who turns out to be the subject of a case that gained national interest; Cristina proves to be the highest in demand as the residents begin their interviews for post-residency positions at prospective hospitals; and Richard is faced with an unsettling realization when he visits Adele at Rose Ridge, on "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, APRIL 19 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/RANDY HOLMES)VANESSA MARANO, ELLEN POMPEO, PATRICK DEMPSEY

This episode was centered around the ‘fifth-years’, their job interviews, and a really traumatized patient. The patient was supposedly a hiker that fell and was badly injured. Soon after she got to the hospital, Meredith noticed the scars on her body and she realized that the patient wasn’t hiking, but she had been running from someone. From her scans Teddy saw signs that show that the girl had been tortured. Apparently, She was kidnapped when she was 6 years old and the Kidnapper lived 5 miles from her parent’s house, but they didn’t find her until now (12 years later). It was sad to watch that some people have actually been through what the patient had been through-kidnapped, raped, tortured, and isolated from everyone at such a young age. There was work to be done on the patient by almost every department in the hospital. The patient formed a bond with Meredith (the psychiatrist wasn’t so happy about this) and she needed her approval for everything, everyone around her seemed like a stranger and whenever she was asked a question, she turned to Meredith before answering.

The doctors were freaked out by this case; Owen had to deal with a lot of administrative stuff around the hospital as the press gathered to feed on the story of the patient, Cristina was also there to encourage him and he looked like he needed her approval for everything. It was so hard to contain what the patient had gone through, especially for Bailey…she knew the story of how the patient had gone missing and she never stopped thinking about it. She even had a panic attack at the daycare when her son was missing. She turned the place upside down and even started crying, but it wasn’t the kidnapper (Thank Goodness), Tucker (her son) had a nosebleed and a nurse had taken him outside to get it treated. Derek and Mark witnessed the whole thing and they realized the intensity of the situation. Every parent’s worst nightmare is for their child to go missing right under their nose.

Cristina was quite the catch for the recruiters, she got offers from the best places more than everyone else and there was a basket of goodies from each one of them to convince her to work for them. Teddy doesn’t want her to leave and she tells Owen to make her stay (she didn’t get the memo about the break up o_o), but Owen yelled at her and made it clear to Teddy that she wasn’t in a position to talk to him about such matters. However, Cristina seemed to be determined to leave Seattle, but Meredith? Not so much, she’s loving the way things are right now so she is not eager to leave. She even tried to avoid the interview Bailey had set up for her, but at the end of the day she went. Dear writers, she is not really leaving right? Because there can’t be Grey’s Anatomy without Meredith Grey! #justsaying

As for the other fifth years, April’s interview didn’t go so well. She did all the talking and she was very confident about her resume. Sometimes it’s not all about what you have done, but who you are! At the end of the day, personality goes a long way! April rants to her colleagues about the situation, but Alex’s situation is even worse as he hasn’t been getting calls from the big places like others. Arizona didn’t want him to leave so she had been messing with his recommendations and referring him to smaller hospitals in places like Toledo, Canada…Ohio! haha! LOL!

No matter how far he runs or how hard he tries, Jackson Avery can’t seem to get away from his name or his family’s achievement. His Mentor, Mark had gotten him an interview, but they seem to be interested in his family rather than what he had to offer as a surgeon. Poor baby. 😦 Speaking of sad, I feel really bad for Webber, his sick wife barely remembers him and she is seeing someone else! Wow…Life!!

This was a really great episode filled with a lot of emotions; sadness, laughter, anger, anxiety, and fear. It was a great episode!!! <;3

Omg! the next episode promises to be even better!!! so excited, we are going to see some action! hint: Lexie and Mark? Kepner and Avery! Finally! What happens after the boards?!

Here’s the preview for the next episode!

“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thurs. at 9/8c on ABC.
